Academy Award-winning actor Anthony Hopkins has joined the bandwagon of celebrities using the Ethereum Name Service (ENS) as Twitter usernames. The 84-year-old changed his Twitter handle to ENS name – A.Hopkins.eth.
The ENS name is a crypto wallet address that is similar to a website URL or email address. The naming system is based on the Ethereum blockchain. It’s quite similar to the Domain Name System (DNS) that matches IP addresses.
This isn’t the first time that the Silence of the Lambs actor has shown his interest in Web3. Zero Contact, Hopkins’ latest sci-fi movie, is the world’s first feature film to be distributed as an NFT. It skipped the traditional theatre release route. Hopkins has also asked his fellow celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Snoop Dogg, and Jimmy Fallon suggestions about which non-fungible token he should scoop.
Fallon replied that its a fun community and there are a bunch of great artists. The TV host and comedian quoted Aaron Neville who had once said that “I don’t know much, but I know I love you”. Fallon, who is an NFT owner, told Hopkins to DM him. Snoop Dogg and his son are opening a Bored Ape NFT-themed desert restaurant in Los Angeles, and Reese Witherspoon’s media production company Hello Sunshine has collaborated with NFT collective World of Women for films and TV shows.
