Crypto lovers will be delighted to know that AMC Theatres will begin to accept meme coins – Dogecoin and Shiba Inu as payments through BitPay this month. A unit of AMC Entertainment Holdings, in November 2021, began accepting Bitcoin, Ether, Bitcoin Cash, and Litecoin for payments. It had promised the popular meme coin soon after.
Adam Aron, the CEO of AMC Entertainment Holdings, tweeted that BitPay will be live for AMC online payments on its official website by March 19. It will be live on its mobile apps by April 16 or a few days earlier. Aron believes this will please cryptocurrency fans.
The executive had promised the crypto community that AMC Theatres will take up DOGE and SHIB payments when he put up a Twitter poll about the world’s most popular meme coin in September. It was followed up by a Shiba Inu poll the following month. AMC Theatres is the largest cinema company in Europe, the United States, and the world. It has about 950 theatres and owns 10,500 screens across the world.
There was a noted delay because BitPay began supporting SHIB in November. With its latest announcement, AMC Entertainment Holdings shares have surged 4%, but remain lower by more than 30% year to date.
