The leading investor in blockchain gaming and NFT startups, Animoca Brands is set to continue with its serious acquisition spree. Yat Siu, the founder and executive chairman of Animoca Brands, said the company isn’t done yet! He revealed that they are looking to acquire companies in different fields of gameplay to which Animoca Brands doesn’t have exposure.
Focused on racing games, Eden and Grease Monkey fits well into Animoca’s existing REVV token ecosystem. It includes REVV Racing on Polygon and MotoGP Ignition on Flow. It should be noted that Grease Monkey’s upcoming Torque Drift 2 will integrate into the REVV ecosystem. Eden Games is renowned for developing games like Need for Speed and Test Drive franchises, as well as the licensed Formula One mobile game. It is regarded for producing robust console and PC racing experiences with a rich gameplay.
Siu sees future blockchain games reaching a similar standard of quality. He believes it will be into the mobile space – highlighting that early hits like Angry Birds led to much more polished 3D titles. It captured the essence of higher-end home games. Siu said it’s not a matter of waiting for hardware power to catch up. It can be accelerated faster.
This is the reason why Animoca Brands is acquiring studios with this kind of reputation and building very high-quality games on the blockchain. Siu pointed out that Animoca Brands could expand into dozens of genres with NFT-powered games. Presently, the firm is looking at first-person shooters (FPS) and Japanese role-playing games (JRPGs). Animoca Brands sees it as a matter of shouldering the risk and responsibility in launching Web3 games. But it’s still quite new and relies on experimental business models.
