Decentralized organization ApeCoin DAO is set to fund a news outlet called The Bored Ape Gazette. The DAO voted in favor of this funding of $150,000 through the proposal known as AIP-70, wherein over 1.1 million ApeCoin tokens voted for it.
The funding will last for a year and will be used for paying The Bored Ape Gazette’s sole writer and editor Kyle Swenson $7,000 a month to create more written content. There will be an increased focus on ApeCoin DAO news and the creation of a bi-weekly Bored Ape Gazette newsletter.
There are also plans to add price trackers for ApeCoin as well as trackers for activity on the BAYC, MAYC, BAKC, and Otherdeed Ethereum NFT collections. Funds will also go towards paying freelancers $100 a story. The aim is to hire writers from the ApeCoin DAO community. The proposal highlighted that the community paper will be written by members of the Ape community. And there is plenty of room for growth.
The Bored Ape Gazette, as per Similar Web data, has seen 52,400 total visits since its launch over a year ago in June 2021. It brings to fore questions over an obvious risk of biased reporting. Swenson, a longtime BAYC holder, said objective reporting is very important to the community. He believes The Bored Ape Gazette will be the voice for the community and will always work hard for a balanced story. It doesn’t promote but reports the news that Apes need to know. Swenson wants to tell people what to think and to bring the community the important information that they need to make their own decisions.
