Billy Markus Reiterates He Is No Longer Working On Dogecoin Project
Billy Markus, the co-creator of the world’s most popular meme coin, has reiterated that he is no longer working on the Dogecoin project. Markus tweeted that he is just a community member. He also revealed that he holds 220,000 DOGE.
The co-creator of the meme coin said he will never return to coding his creation. Markus shared that working on a crypto project is “terrible”. He added that the more one works for the people, the more entitled the people feel. And they also treat badly.
Markus respects the developers. His heart goes out to those volunteers who want to continue with the dogecoin project. Markus says he will continue to defend those whom he feels are actively making the crypto space better. But he will discourage those who aren’t.
2021 gave rise to dogecoin and this has been attributed to Elon Musk’s priceless tweets and support. Musk in an interview said lots of people, whom he talked to, on the production lines at Tesla or building rockets at SpaceX own Doge. He said they aren’t financial or technology experts. Musk revealed this was the reason he decided to support Doge. He said it feels like the people’s crypto.
Musk took Dogecoin a step further by saying that SpaceX will launch DOGE-1 Mission to the Moon in early-2022. Furthermore, Tesla is also accepting dogecoin as payment for merchandise.
Markus created dogecoin in 2013 as a parody of the world’s most popular cryptocurrency – Bitcoin. He said they wanted it for a community that was more fun, lighthearted and inclusive. Markus says this worked. This is one of the reasons the dogecoin community consistently maintains its presence.
