This is a project that was developed by the tourist enclave of Honduras, in Santa Lucia. This is how the country has taken its first step into the trend of embracing digital country
Santa Lucia is a small town located in the mountains. It’s located around twenty minutes away from Tegucigalpa, which is the capital. Santa Lucia has now turned into the city for bitcoin, within Honduras.
Use Bitcoin In Santa Lucia
Both big and small business owners in Santa Lucia are now adopting cryptocurrency as a mode of payment. This is in hopes to attract even more tourism. According to the manager of the shopping square Los Robles, Cesar Andino, this is in order to attract more people as well as opportunities.
The project of ‘Bitcoin Valley’ targets around sixty businesses, that will be trained in adopting cryptocurrency. They will learn how to market their products as well as services using crypto. It’s expected that this practice is likely to spread to nearby areas.
This is an initiative that was developed by the organization Blockchain Honduras. They worked together with Coincaex, a Guatemalan crypto exchange, as well as the Technological University of Honduras. The municipality of Santa Lucia was also involved. In order to better deal with potential volatility, merchants in the Bitcoin Valley can receive payments instantly in the local currency.
