Buying a burrito or taco in the United States just got easier than ever! In what is shaping up to be a huge win for blockchain users, Chipotle Mexican Grill, the American fast-food supreme has declared that they will now be accepting cryptocurrency for payments. The catch is that they are only taking payments made via Flexa, the leading digital payments platform. Flexa’s official Twitter account @FlexaHQ posted that nearly a hundred digital currencies like Bitcoin, Ether, SOL, Dogecoin and stablecoins like USD coin can be used as the latest mode of payment.
This will soon come into effect in Chipotle’s nearly 3000 outlets throughout the country. In a bid to make cryptocurrency more mainstream than ever, Chipotle has been inspired by the trailblazing examples of many food chains who have forayed into the world of crypto before. The long list includes the likes of KFC, Quiznos, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Burger King, Subway, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Shake Shack and Starbucks.
Chipotle has stated that their decision was based on the fact that they wanted to upgrade their consumer experience for a speedy and seamless purchasing. They wanted to give them the power of flexible payment methods they are most comfortable with. As an introductory offer, consumers can avail a discount up to 10% off on all payments made through Flexa-based apps until the end of June 2022. The consumers will have to download Flexa-recognized apps like Gemini or SPEDN. They will then have to attach their online wallets which contains their cryptocurrencies to use for transactions with Chipotle.
This is hardly Chipotle’s first crypto rodeo. They had previously organized a major giveaway to commemorate the National Burrito Day in 2021 when they gave away burritos equivalent to a hundred grand in Bitcoin for free. Chipotle had also pioneered the trend of establishing a virtual marketplace to celebrate Halloween by teaming up with Roblox.
