News of a crypto product from Discord was all over social media forums for the past few days. Putting an end to all speculations, the CEO of Discord, Jason Citron, said that the company is not thinking about any immediate actions for a crypto wallet. However, he did not rule out the possibility of one in the future. He further added that the company’s first priority now is to ensure user security and privacy. Talking about the web3, he lauded the technology’s benefits but also brought to notice the possibilities of security compromise.
Citron did not rule out the possibility of a future product in his interview with The Verge. As things indicate now, any immediate plans would be postponed until a suitable time.
Big tech companies, including social media giants, have already entered the crypto sector in bulk. In such a situation, it would not be much of a surprise to see Discord come up with its own crypto wallet. According to many, Discord and Reddit are two popular online discussion platforms that can have a successful run in the crypto sector. Many forums in Discord have indirectly and directly shaped major occurrences in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
Whether Discord comes up with a cryptocurrency wallet is still speculation. It would not be very surprising if they decide to enter the market, since their prospects are good. Some feel that it’s a matter of time now and not a question of its veracity.
