Disney Ventures into NFTs and Metaverse.

Disney is keen to hire a principal counsel specializing in Web3 non-fungible tokens (NFTs), the metaverse, decentralized finance, and blockchain technologies. The entertainment giant in a recent job posting outlined that the attorney will provide legal advice and support for global NFT products made in partnership with Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution, as well as Disney Parks, Experience, and Products.

He or she will provide day-to-day legal advice to Disney legal and business teams on NFT and cryptocurrency-related matters and issues. The personnel will also provide thought leadership and strategic direction on products involving digital currency and blockchain technology.

This comes after Disney CEO Bob Chapek described the metaverse as the next great storytelling frontier. Disney wants to make its presence and commitment strong in Web3. The company had experimented with NFTs in 2021 and in February, it tapped tech executive Mike White as senior vice president of Next Generation Storytelling and Consumer Experiences – a division that will lead Disney into the metaverse. As such, the company has recruited a number of NFT specialists. Disney is also working with multiple crypto companies for its accelerator program.

The company’s recent job posting shows that besides NFTs and metaverse ecosystems, it is also keen on digital currency and DeFi mechanisms. These innovations and technologies will be developed and rolled out on an accelerated and aggressive timeline.
