Donald Trump, in his fresh attack against digital assets, has called cryptocurrency a “very dangerous” thing. The former US President’s comment comes just days after his wife Melania Trump launched an NFT project – Melania’s Vision.
But he has been very encouraging and positive about the former First Lady’s initiative. Trump told Fox Business that Melania was doing great. He praised his wife’s creativity saying that she has a great imagination.
Melania said her new NFT project embodies her passion for the arts. It will support her ongoing commitment to children through the Be Best initiative. Through this new emerging technology, they will empower children with computer science skills. An official statement said proceeds from the NFT project seek to help children economically and expand their reach to technology.
However, when asked about cryptocurrency, Trump said he likes the dollar and highlighted that he never loved digital assets. “I was never a big fan,” the former US President said. But he did acknowledge its growing popularity and adoption. “It is building up to bigger and bigger. Nobody’s doing anything about it.” Trump says it could be an explosion someday and make the big tech explosion look like a baby. He thinks it is a “very dangerous thing.”
In June, the former president had said that bitcoin seems like a scam. He had also said that he wanted the US dollar to be the currency of the world. Trump believes bitcoin should be highly regulated. Being one of the biggest critics of cryptocurrency, he said he was not a fan of bitcoin or cryptocurrencies as a whole because they are not money. He pointed out its high volatility and said it’s based on thin air.
He reiterated that unregulated digital assets will facilitate unlawful behavior such as drug trade and terrorism.
