The third and also the last testnet of the network will be Goerli. This is before the network transitions to proof of state, which which due to happen in the middle of September. Ethereum, at present, is just one step away from the Merge. The deployment of the Goerli/Prater testnet is set to happen next week. This will be the final test that is completed before Ethereum transitions to proof of stake.
Ethereum Gets Ready To Transition
Goerli is an example of a dress rehearsal for the upcoming Merge. This helps prepare for the upcoming event by moving the mainnet of Ethereum to a network environment for a test. This is the last and final dry run. The Sepolia testnet was held earlier in July, and it was successful. In June, it was the turn of the Ropsten testnet, which was successful as well.
Between the 6th and the 12th of August, it’s now the turn of the Goerli testnet. This is scheduled to merge together with Prater. This is the beacon chain associated with it. The beacon chain that is main is the version of Ethereum that is proof of stake.
This has been running parallely to the Ethereum network that is current, the proof of work network. This merge will be responsible for moving all activity on the Ethereum network off the proof of work chain it’s currently on. It is to go on to the beacon chain. Should this testnet proceed smoothly, then the core developers of Ethereum are hoping to deploy their merge on or towards the 19th of September.
