Almost every big e-commerce platform has not transitioned to accepting crypto payments. And even fewer accept digital currencies. Any one of them who choose to do so would set the conversational ball rolling about this topic.
EBay wants to be the first to do so and attract Gen-Z shoppers along with millennials. The company has set up a team to study the possible addition of crypto as a mode of payment. An announcement could be made on this topic as early as March 10th. This is the day dedicated to the company’s investors, according to a statement made by Jamie Iannone, EBay CEO.
According to him, the company has just transitioned to manage payments more effectively as they manage $85 billion in transaction volume on the platform. It gives EBay the option to add new payment modes. After starting with Google Pay and going on to Apple Pay, EBay now has a tie up with Afterpay in Australia. This Australian payment method is very popular with millennials in that country.
Given all these options and preferences, EBay as a company plans to evaluate all available modes for the platform. Crypto is currently not accepted. Iannone insisted that Gen-Z shoppers are a priority for the company, and they have taken many initiatives to attract them as customers. One product that is popular and purchased a lot is sneakers.
Would this mean that EBay will add digital currency as a payment option? Customers and everyone else will have to wait till March 10th, 2022 to get confirmation on this issue.
