American multinational financial services firm Fidelity Investments is seeking trademarks for a host of Web3 products and services, including the NFT marketplace. The firm submitted three trademark filings to the US Patent Trademark Office on December 21. This was revealed by Mike Kondoudis, a licensed trademark attorney, in a tweet on December 27.
He said Fidelity Investments has filed for three trademark applications covering NFTs + NFT marketplaces; Metaverse Investment Services; Virtual Real Estate Investing; and Crypto Trading among others. The firm seems to focus on the Metaverse. It had earlier indicated plans to offer a wide range of investment services within virtual worlds including mutual funds, retirement funds, investment management, and financial planning.
Fidelity Investments is also looking at Metaverse-based payment services, including electronic bill payments, fund transfers, and the financial administration of credit card accounts in the Metaverse and other virtual worlds. Its filings for crypto suggest that the firm could launch trading and management services in the Metaverse and provide virtual currency wallet services.
The filing stated that electronic wallet services in the nature of electronic storage and processing of virtual currency for electronic payments and transactions through a global computer network, digital currency, virtual currency, and cryptocurrency digital token. Moreover, Fidelity Investments will offer educational services in the Metaverse in the form of conducting classes, workshops, seminars, and conferences in the field of investments and marketing financial services. It will provide business information to financial service providers by means of an internet website, in the field of business marketing in the Metaverse and other virtual worlds; referral services for investment advice and financial planning in the Metaverse and other virtual worlds.
