According to online news sources, the government of Gibraltar has decided to incorporate blockchain technology into the government legacy systems. With this move, the government aims to make significant improvements in the delivery of public services. As per the press release of 7 December, the project to integrate blockchain technology is being undertaken with the support of RSK blockchain developer IOVlabs and Bitso. Bitso is a crypto exchange based out of Latin America.
Through this pilot project, the Gibraltar government will try to upgrade the existing ‘eGov’ system, which is primarily used for accessing a wide variety of public services. The integration of blockchain technology into legacy systems will help in improving the efficiency and speed of public interactions and government processes.
The minister of digital and financial services in Gibraltar, Albert Isola, made a statement regarding the project. He said that through this move, Gibraltar has proved that it is in keeping up with the changing technology. The government is open to using blockchain-related solutions for a variety of services and wants to change the way it interacts with the public through this project. He further said that the government is confident that the solid foundation provided by RSK Blockchain will be great for building the intended services program.
Gibraltar is located on the tip of Spain and is a British overseas territory. The country has proven time and again that it is open to companies and technologies working with digital assets. For the many digital asset companies who are seeking regulatory certainty, the Digital Ledger Technology of Gibraltar will prove to be a boon.
