The National Basketball Association will begin minting The Association – its Ethereum NFT collection of 18,000 assets. The collection will feature 75 NFTs of each player from the 16 different NBA teams participating.
The sporting body highlighted that each Association NFT represents a real NBA player in this year’s playoffs. However, it should be noted that these NFTs like actual players don’t stay static.
The NFT traits will change over the course of the playoffs based on each player’s real-life performance. This means that a certain number of dunks, blocks, three-pointers, and rebounds will evolve the player’s image. Moreover, the backgrounds and frames of the NFTs will change in terms of the player’s team’s performance.
NBA fans will be pleased to know that the NFTs will not cost much. In fact, the NFTs will be free to mint. But collectors have to pay for the cost of gas on Ethereum. The National Basketball Association will keep some tokens for the holders of NBA Top Shot NFTs. It will limit anyone to a maximum of one per wallet. The NFT art, after the presale minting begins, will be revealed on Friday. It will be made visible on NFT marketplaces such as OpenSea.
The NFT collection comes just after the NBA launched a Discord Server and a fresh Twitter account dedicated to all things NBAxNFT. Interest surged after sources highlighted that NBA had filed a trademark application for The Association branding.
