Nigeria’s eNaira website has gone live ahead of its October launch date
The official website for the Central Bank of Nigeria’s digital currency, eNaira, has been launched ahead of its launch date, Oct 1. This website provides all the information about the Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC), eNaira.
eNaira is a store of value as well as a medium of exchange. Once it is launched, people will be able to use the CBDC on remittances and retail payments. To start right away, citizens can download the app that allows you to integrate your bank account as well.
The currency, eNaira, will be launched on October 1 as well. The CBN will be sending documents on the digital currency to the local banks, which will describe everything banks need to do for this change. However, the asset will have a non-interest-bearing status and be legal tender. There will be a maximum limit on value and customer-based transactions.
About 24 hours after the eNaira website went live, there were about a million hits. This shows the level of interest people have in this new digital currency. According to the website, the users of eNaira will be able to enjoy easier financial transactions. It also offers peer-to-peer payment opportunities so that users can send money through their linked accounts. It also allows customers to transfer money to their eNaira wallet from their bank account easily. Users will be able to view their transaction history, check balances, and monitor their eNaira wallet.
According to Mr. Godwin Emefiele, CBN Governor, the launch of eNaira might be rescheduled from October 1 to October 4 as the former is their country’s Independence Day and they don’t want to take the shine away from the celebration.
