Reddit is the latest social media platform that has taken a liken to non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and is testing a feature that allows users to set an NFT as their profile picture. Word is that this feature is quite similar to Twitter adopting photos of NFT to give users information about the digital asset.
However, Reddit confirmed that they are still in the very early stages of the NFT testing phase. It hasn’t been made available to the public as of yet. An official statement by the social media company stated that they are always exploring ways to provide users and communities onto the platform. Reddit is currently testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures. These are also called avatars. It described the process as a small and internal test. But no decisions have been made about its expansion or rolling it out.
This shows the growing popularity and adoption of NFTs. Reddit has been looking at NFTs for some time and even has a dedicated page for it at nft.reddit.com, which focuses on CryptoSnoos (Reddit’s digital collectibles). Initially, the platform was at the receiving end of some Redditors who questioned the NFTs. They even called it idiotic and a gimmick, while others criticized the high prices. Many users felt they were left out due to the high prices. And some users have been neutral taking in the platform’s inclination towards NFTs.
YouTube and Twitter have also experienced similar feelings from the users.
