Sky Mavis, the creator of the popular fantasy monster-battle NFT game Axie Infinity, has accepted the first user-created projects in its “Axie Infinity Builders Program”. 12, out of 2,000 applications submitted, were selected for the program.
The selected teams will receive a minimum $10,000 grant denominated in Axie Infinity’s governance token – Axie Infinity Shards (AXS) – to fund the project development. The teams will also get permission to monetize their game using the Axie Infinity brand with a revenue-share model. Some projects which have risen are Across Lunacia and Mech Infinity.
Philip La, a game product lead at Axie Infinity, highlighted that community co-creation will be a fundamental driver of scaled-value generation over time. He said the Builders Program is the first step in a new world where the community can make significant and meaningful contributions toward games and projects. This is one of the many initiatives that will empower players to gain more enjoyment from the Axies they own.
Axie Infinity is renowned for its play-to-earn (P2E) game model. Players get to earn digital tokens like Smooth Love Potion (SLP) by completing in-game tasks with their Axie NFTs. But the inflated token supply, the ongoing crypto bear market, and a crowded player base have led SLP to fall 96% in value over the past year.
