The stablecoin USDT has been declared an official currency by Myanmar’s shadow government.

Crypto adoption has been on the rise and the newest player in the game is Myanmar. The National Unity Government of Myanmar said that they will be using the Tether that will enhance their payment efficiency and also the trade of speed.

It is currently the shadow government that has locked the popular leader Aung San Suu Kyi. In a recent attempt to connect with the world, they have declared the Tether (USDT) stablecoin an official currency.

This means that it can be used for daily and local transactions in the country. The NUG has raided more than $9.5 million for the diaspora of their country all over the world. They want to raise more than $1 billion through the use of their NUG-issued bonds.

On Monday, the Finance minister of Myanmar announced the change. Myanmar had banned the use of cryptocurrency in May 2020. In October 2021, the E.U. recognized the NUG as the official government of Myanmar.

But the USA has been oblivious to this and has rather been coming down heavily on cryptocurrency users. They have recently resolved their issues with Coinbase and let them roll out their lend feature.

This calls for much more strict issuances of stablecoins and how they should be able to be issued by a foreign body. Many people have criticized this move and the U.S. government wants to impose strict issuance policies regarding stablecoins.

If you have been planning to get in on the crypto trend, then right now is the best time to do so. Be an early investor and reap the benefits later on.
