One of the primary developers Ross Nicoll who was working on Dogecoin has stepped back from the meme coin’s ongoing project because of stress. He said the stress involved is overwhelming and he needs to focus on himself for a period.
In a blog post, Nicoll highlighted that Dogecoin has grown in popularity and is moving into the blockchain space. He said it will lead to a risk of conflict of interest if he remains as a Director. Moreover, he brought to light that a number of parties have been registering trademarks for Dogecoin presumably to claim that they were Dogecoin. And external parties managed to get articles published that referred to them as Dogecoin developers.
Nicoll revealed that there was a potential lawsuit in 2021 against the developers from someone who claimed that the Dogecoin Foundation was responsible for their funds. As such, Jens, Tim, Gary, and Michi have all built and led the Foundation to defend against these threats. They want to provide a nexus to engage with those who want to provide services for Dogecoin or utilize Dogecoin.
The developer said the Foundation is operating in an extremely challenging environment. Simple processes are significantly more complex every step of the way than they should be. But Nicoll pointed out that they are moving forward and urged everyone to show their support. He said the alternative is returning to a situation where source contributors are exposed to legal risk. And there is no entity to shield them.
