The Ukrainian Army receives $3 million in ETH from a new DAO.

A DAO (decentralized autonomous organization) has been established to raise funds for Ukrainian soldiers, who are currently facing the Russian Army. UkraineDAO, an attempt to raise funds, is being coordinated by the members of PleasrDAO, an investment group. Pussy Riot, the Russian art collective, and the NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens) studio Trippy Labs has raised $3 million so far in ETH (Ethereum) based tokens.

This project was inspired by a few more politically minded fundraiser DAOs like ConstitutionDAO and AssangeDAO, which attempted to buy an original copy of the United States constitution at an auction and failed.

UkraineDAO collaborates with the government of Ukraine itself to invite cryptocurrency donations to help the resistance after Russia’s invasion.

Alona Shevchenko, who was born in eastern Ukraine and currently living in London, made a new Twitter account for UkraineDAO. She made this account a couple of days before the Russian President announced the invasion. She told CoinDesk, just in case.

She said, when she began to get messages from her friends living in Ukraine that their cities are being bombed. She asked her friends from PleasrDAO for help, and later so many amazing people came to help me.

Shevchenko came back from the anti-war protest on Thursday at 10 Downing Street and got a zoom call from PleasrDAO and found that a team was already assembled. As she put it, it’s self-organized super quickly, UkraineDAO.

This is not the first time Shevchenko is organizing crowdfunding, she is currently working as the lead of operations and community for FreeRossDAO.
