Turkey is fast becoming one of the most successful countries in terms of welcoming new tech innovations. While the Turkish currency has suffered severe inflation levels, the nation is making steady progress on other fronts. The country’s political parties are now actively participating in the transition, with The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) hosting a meeting on the metaverse. Important Turkish leaders were present in the meeting, including the likes of Mahir Ünal, Mustafa ElitaÅŸ, and Ömer İleri. The subject of the meeting was equally intriguing. TBMM mainly discussed cryptocurrencies, DeFi, and the future of digital assets in the country. The metaverse meeting was the first of its kind in Turkey and garnered attention from international media. TBMM leaders hope to spread their message with this move and welcome more innovations in the country.
However, Turkey is not completely pro-crypto. The most powerful political figure in the country, President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, is vocally against cryptocurrencies. In 2021, he said that Turkey is declaring a war against cryptocurrencies and will never embrace digital assets. That had led many to believe that the nation would impose a China-like ban on cryptocurrencies. However, the present situation of the country seems to suggest otherwise. With rising inflation levels and growing civil discontent, digital assets can prove to be a savior for the country. Crypto adoption rates in the country are also good, and Turkey holds a lot of promise for the crypto space. As of now, the TBMM is making its statement clear with the meeting on metaverse.
