The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is set to pay out fan bonuses to its fighters in the popular Bitcoin. This will be paid out to the top-three fighters of the pay-per-view event in association with its official digital asset partner Crypto.com. It will be a total of three Bitcoin fan bonuses ranging from $10,000 – $30,000. Fans across the world can vote for the Bitcoin bonuses of the night on Crypto.com’s official portal on the day of the event.
The first such bonus will be introduced during the upcoming UFC 273: Volkanovski vs. Korean Zombie scheduled for April 9. The BTC bonus will be an addition to the traditional Fight of the Night and Performance bonuses awarded to the UFC athletes.
Dana White, the UFC president, said the new Fan Bonus of the Night is an awesome way to get fans engaged in its events. It also rewards fighters for bad-ass performances. Like NFL stars, UFC fighters have also opted for crypto – Bitcoin paychecks over traditional fiat payouts. It should be noted that the mixed martial arts sports company has also taken a likening to non-fungible tokens. UFC launched its first official NFT in November 2021.
Other sporting companies such as NBA and Formula One, as well as football league clubs across the world, have taken crypto exchange companies as their major brand partners. UFC was one of the first to integrate crypto-based promotions. It sealed a $175 million sponsorship deal with Crypto.com in July 2021.
