Infinite Machine, an upcoming film that will focus on Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, is feature metaverse-focused angles. Versus Entertainment is working with Decentraland and Lumiere to develop this. The film, to be produced by Versus, is adapted from Camilla Russo’s book which has the same title Infinite Machine. Work is being done by acclaimed director Ridley Scott’s production company – Scott Free.
The film rotates around Buterin’s story and Ethereum as the world’s second-largest digital asset. Decentraland and Lumiere are developing the film’s crypto and NFT-based plots. Decentraland is a virtual world that is powered by open-source technology. Lumiere is a Hong Kong and Singapore-based entertainment specialist. It is developing and integrating the experience of the film into the Decentraland metaverse.
Infinite Machine has a budget of $16 million. It is set to undergo its third round of NFT issues in the coming months. As such, the project will emerge as the first-ever NFT-financed film. The collection is made up of around 10,499 uniquely designed NFTs from 36 nascent artists. It will include the works of Lucas Riberiro, Marella Gonzalez, and Eduardo Calegari. The production team said proceeds from the NFT sales will be shared among the 36 artists – 22.5%; Infinite Machine DAO 10%; and 67.5% will go towards the overall movie budget.
Russo believes Ethereum is enabling a world where users and audiences are owners and participants. She said the Infinite Machine should be part of that movement and empower the Ethereum community to participate in the creation of a film about the platform. Francisco Gordillo, the film’s executive producer, says the project will broadcast Ethereum’s ecosystem potential to mainstream audiences. Alejandro De Grazia from Decentraland said the film has chosen Decentraland to build its experience to interact with its community fan base. He highlighted that the connection between movies, their communities, and the metaverse is already happening.
Patrice Poujol, the CEO of Lumiere, said this case can transform how the entire industry develops and promotes its content to its fans and audiences. The collaboration between Decentraland and Versus will bring about a unique NFT collection and integrate it into the virtual land.
