Ben Rosenblatt and Micho Rutare, veteran Hollywood filmmakers, launched a novel crypto-token $FLIX to reinvent how independent films are financed, produced, and distributed.
The filmmakers will leverage $FLIX through their company “American Meme” to raise capital for a slate of indie films that will appeal to both film and crypto enthusiasts. The fee on each transaction will go to a film wallet. The team has committed to investing 75% of film wallet funds in production and 25% in marketing and publicity. Profits from the film sales, distribution, and licensing will be utilized to buy back $FLIX. This will make the token deflationary for its relative value to continually increase.
Token holders will get exclusive access to cast and crew chats, behind-the-scene invites, votes on creation decisions, premiers, and parties. The founders want a growing, robust community of crypto and film enthusiasts who can invest in indie filmmaking financially as well as creatively.
Ben Rosenblatt, a producer of Snowpiercer, Star Wars, and Star Trek films and series, highlighted that Hollywood is once again evolving and the most powerful voices can come from outside the town. He believes filmmaking and crypto communities are incredibly engaged and powerful. The filmmaker is seeking their help in creating the next hit movie. He wants to foster the next great wave of popular and original independent cinema. Rosenblatt says it’s time for a shift and the new cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies are the key to shifting power back through decentralized film finance.
Micho Rutare, a veteran writer, director, and creative executive responsible for the Sharknado franchise, believes Web3 technologies can bring limitless potential to the entertainment industry – vertical, decentralized filmmaking. Rutare said the token holders help the filmmakers decide what to make, help finance projects and get first access to all rewards. This liberates new forms of media distribution and more room for artistic freedom.
Rosenblatt and Rutare are working to make their $FLIX token the paramount medium of exchange for filmed entertainment transactions – in the traditional theatrical business as well as in the metaverse.
