World’s largest video sharing platform YouTube recently deleted the YouTube channel of Anthony Pompliano. He is the co-founder of Morgan Creek Digital and host of The Pomp Podcast. He has over 250,000 subscribers on his YouTube channel. However, the ban lasted for just 2 hours, after which YouTube restored the channel with all its videos.
Pompliano took to Twitter to talk about these events. He said that he got messages from YouTube that said that a recent live stream on his channel promoted illegal activities. The said interview was with stock-to-flow model creator PlanB. Anthony Pompliano is a well-known Bitcoin bull. His YouTube channel is geared towards crypto education, focusing mainly on newbies and skeptics.
Pompliano, in his Tweets, said that YouTube was inconsistent in its claim. They first informed Pompliano that the content of an interview on Bitcoin was illegal and harmful. After that, YouTube said that his channel would be receiving a strike. However, in another email, Pompliano was told that his channel would be deleted.
Pompliano claims that he has not received even a single strike. In YouTube, strikes refer to violations of YouTube community guidelines. If a channel has three strikes in 90 days, YouTube holds the right to permanently delete that channel. He also claims that the mentioned interview had no content that is malicious, harmful, or illegal. YouTube can take action on a channel in an isolated case of ‘severe abuse’, which includes harassment, racism, hate speech, and other illegal activities. According to Pompliano, his video or channel does not fall under this category as well.
People are seeing this as a continuation of YouTube’s anti-crypto stance. Similar incidents have happened in the past with other crypto-focused channels. However, it goes directly against YouTube’s own community guidelines which state that informative and educational articles do not pose any threat to society.
