GameFi, or gaming on the blockchain, is already getting traction in the world of gaming. While the crypto community used to be resistant to mainstream game developers, now they seem to be becoming more liberal. Zynga is a popular name in the world of gaming. This San Francisco-based game development company is known for the extremely popular game FarmVille. Apart from FarmVille, Zynga is also known for the CSR Racing series. Now Zynga is all set to enter the world of GameFi.
Zynga’s plans of entering the crypto space were evident last year when it appointed Matt Wolf as the president of its blockchain gaming section. Matt Wolf is a long-time proponent of the ecosystem and has deep knowledge of blockchain. Zynga is also set to recruit more employees to its blockchain gaming division. Zynga is also set to be a part of Take-Two Interactive, which has developed the wildly popular Grand Theft Auto series.
If and when Zynga enters the blockchain gaming world, it will have serious repercussions for independent blockchain game developers. Being a billion-dollar company, Zynga will bring in resources and expertise that smaller brands will be unable to afford. However, the play-to-earn model of blockchain games is still not tested in the mainstream. Whether corporates like Zynga will be able to get a hold of it or not is still unclear. For now, the crypto community is looking forward to Zynga’s entry into the blockchain gaming space. Other game developers will hopefully follow in Zynga’s footsteps in the near future.
