What happened
The agenda carried keynotes from the SEC, the New York Department of Financial Services, the White House, the Senate and the Treasury, with Senator Cynthia Lummis scheduled for the Senate slot and Taylor Lindman, chief counsel of the SEC Crypto Task Force, for the SEC fireside chat. A panel on monitoring illicit finance on public blockchains brought together speakers from Chainalysis, Fenwick & West and the Digital Sovereignty Alliance, moderated by TRON’s general counsel. Much of the rest of the day ran as closed roundtables under the Chatham House Rule.
Why it mattered
The event landed while market-structure legislation was still in play. The Digital Sovereignty Alliance said the focus in the room was on getting the CLARITY Act done in the lame-duck session, which makes the weeks after the event the ones to watch.
Stablecoin rules were the other thread running through the day. Our explainer on why Washington regulates stablecoins covers the background, and the growth of stablecoins in global payments shows what is at stake for payment firms.
